Into Thin Air

This is an astounding read. The air of menace that hangs over the whole book is superb. Made all the worse (the subject) and better (as a read) by the realisation that those effected were real people. This is one of those books that reminds you that for all the stories and magic and made-up stuff out there, real humans are still having real adventures. With all the risk and reward that goes with that.

Definitely in the top-10.
